Provide
technical and scientific assistance and analyzes in the
laboratory to meet program objectives. Supervise operation of
laboratory aspects of the Food Safety and Microbiology
program. Assist in experimental food processing,
microbiological procedures, chemical analyses, and equipment
maintenance. Develops computerized records of research data
and writes reports as needed. Trains, supervises and schedules
work of graduate and undergraduate students as related to
experimental procedures and good laboratory practices. Perform
other tasks and duties as assigned.
Strong
knowledge of current food/agricultural research and safe/good
laboratory practices. Excellent problem solving ability and
organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively both
orally and in writing with the ability to work independently
or as part of a team. Experience in training students as it
relates to research projects and laboratory assignments.
Ability to operate manual and automated laboratory and food
processing equipment such as autoclave, centrifuge,
microscope, blender, and colony counter. Bachelor's degree in
Food Science, Microbiology or related field.
Knowledge and
experience with food processing and sanitation from the farm
to the dinner table. Knowledge and skills in microbiology,
especially rapid detection techniques for foodborne pathogens.
Selected
candidate must pass a criminal background check which may
include fingerprinting, and must complete a Statement of
Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if
applicable.
